Dr. P. David Pearson—the former dean of the Graduate School of Education at the University of California at Berkeley—studied and synthesized research around argumentative writing on behalf of LDC. His resulting paper is available below.

Dr. Pearson has worked closely with LDC over the past decade, and confirms that LDC’s curriculum, resources, and professional development improve K-12 teacher skill and student outcomes with argumentative writing—and with any other kind of rigorous, authentic, standards-aligned writing in response to careful reading and thinking.
