Literacy for Civic Life (LCL) – Professional Learning Opportunity

LDC is proud to offer C3/civics-focused K–12 curriculum and professional learning resources through Literacy for Civic Life (LCL). LCL empowers secondary Social Studies and ELA educators to accelerate student learning in both traditional literacy and civic literacy. LCL takes a modular approach, offering educators flexibility without requiring them to replace their current curriculum. It is ideal for teachers who can incorporate at least two C3/civics-focused LCL instructional cycles over the course of the school year (each typically requiring 7–10 instructional days).

Cost

Participating in LCL for one year costs $750 per teacher

Dates

2025–26 cohorts run October 2025 – June 2026

Time Commitment

Approximately 16 hours of PD outside classroom time across the school year

Participating LCL teachers join a national cohort of educators, with each teacher:

  • implementing two LCL curricular modules per year
  • engaging in cohort-based professional learning (both online/asynchronous and virtual/synchronous via Zoom) to support implementation
  • sharing student work samples and reflections

Dates

2025–26 cohorts will kick off in October 2025 and will last through June 2026 (most work is conducted asynchronously, but LDC will work with participants to schedule all synchronous Zoom meetings based on availability).

Time Commitment

This professional development opportunity requires approximately 16 hours of each teacher’s time over the course of the school year outside of their classroom activities (teachers will, of course, spend normal classroom time implementing two LCL curricular modules, in addition to preparing for implementation and scoring student work resulting from the implementations). Here is a breakdown of the time commitment:
  • 2 hours (early Fall 2025): LCL Onboarding online/asynchronous professional learning experience
  • 1.5 hours (early Fall 2025): LCL Virtual Meeting #1 (via Zoom)
  • 1.5 hours (Fall 2025): LCL Virtual Meeting #2 (via Zoom)
  • 5 hours (Fall 2025 / Winter 2026): LCL Instructional Cycle #1: engaging in online/asynchronous experiences before, during, and after teaching an LCL curricular module
  • 1.5 hours (Winter 2026): LCL Virtual Meeting #3 (via Zoom)
  • 3 hours (Spring 2026): LCL Instructional Cycle #2: engaging in online/asynchronous experiences before, during, and after teaching an LCL curricular module
  • 1.5 hours (Spring 2026): LCL Virtual Meeting #4 (via Zoom)
