LDC is delighted to announce the release of the new LDC Elementary Template Task Beta Collection. We have received countless requests for these collections and now, in collaboration with many members of the LDC community of practice, we have developed a template task collection for three grade bands: K/1, 2/3, and 4/5. This collection is based on earlier work in many districts using LDC template tasks in the elementary grades, as well as previous elementary template tasks.

Now that the collection is ready for beta testing, we are hoping that schools and teachers in classrooms across the country will try out the new template tasks. We greatly value your feedback, so please send your experiences, revisions, and recommendations to

As with all LDC template tasks, the Elementary Collection is structured around the thinking strands embedded in the Common Core State Standards. Using these templates, teachers in K–5 will be able to design instruction and assessment that meet the demands of both the standards and local content and instructional needs.

Click here to download in DOC or PDF format the full collection of elementary template tasks—or a sub-collection of the elementary tasks broken down by the K/1, 2/3, and 4/5 grade bands, respectively.

LDC CoreTools enables you to design modules using any of these elementary template tasks. Selecting an elementary template task in LDC CoreTools automatically builds in the appropriate grade-level Common Core Standards associated with that template task; the system also makes available draft versions of rubrics associated with elementary template tasks.

A resounding thank-you to all the teachers, coaches, and administrators from across the country who participated in the development of this new collection of template tasks. We look forward to hearing your comments.
