Center for Inspired Teaching is building a better school experience for students through transformative teacher training.

Inspired Teaching has a direct impact on students by training their teachers to provide high quality, engaging instruction. Central to Inspired Teaching’s work is a process that encourages teachers to rethink their role in the classroom, from information provider to Instigator of Thought®. Inspired Teaching is committed to ending the practice of “delivering” professional development to teachers and is working to make teachers full collaborators in school improvement and reform strategies.

Inspired Teaching’s professional development model is supported by evidence-based research about how people learn. Our programs are based in best practices in teacher education and in the belief that every student possesses the ability to think critically, understand information, and solve complex problems. Students of Inspired Teachers® are not told what to think, they learn how to think, thereby developing critical skills needed to succeed in school today and in college and careers tomorrow.

How Center for Inspired Teaching Supports Implementation of LDC Tools

 Center for Inspired Teaching partners with school districts and charter schools to create teacher-leaders with the ability to write and implement curricula aligned with the College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) standards framework for social studies as well as the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Inspired Teaching uses LDC as a primary vehicle for designing curriculum and implementing standards.

Experience With LDC

Inspired Teaching was the first organization in the District of Columbia to implement the LDC on a large scale. Thanks to our LDC work during the 2010-2011 school year, District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) contracted with Inspired Teaching from 2011 to 2015 to work with cohorts of teachers to create Common Core-aligned curricula for every unit of every social studies course grades 6-12. LDC was the framework in which those to pilot and implement LDC tools.
